MenuWeather 3.0

I’m happy to announce that version 3.0 of MenuWeather is now live. You can update via the app, or by visiting the MenuWeather page here. As you may know, MenuWeather 3.0 has been completely rewritten. MenuWeather was originally written in AppleScriptObjC, now it is in Objective-C. Objective-C is the native language for developing Mac OS X programs. The advantages to Obj-C over AppleScript are mainly speed and stability. The speed of MenuWeather has been increased by well over 100%. You weather is now retrieved in the blink of an eye.

While this new version of MenuWeather may not have any new features that are useful to you, the end-user, it paves the way for many new features that would have been much more difficult to implement into an Applescript application. One of the most requested feature for MenuWeather is a global hotkey to update the weather. If all goes well, this will be the next feature in MenuWeather’s next release.

AB Repeat & MenuWeather

I’m happy to announce that my first iOS app has been accepted into Apple’s App Store. More information, and a link to iTunes page can be found here.

On another note, I’ve been working hard to translate MenuWeather to native Objective-C from its current AppleScriptObjC. This rewrite means MenuWeather will be faster, more stable, and use less memory. I expect to be done translating all of the code by the end of this weekend. That doesn’t mean that there will be a release that soon. I expect to hit a lot of problems once I’m done with the translation, however, if all goes well I should have the finished product in a matter of weeks.
